Incoming Tenure-Track Assistant Professor

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Zixing Song is an incoming Tenure-Track Assistant Professor (Presidential Young Scholar) in the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He is currently a Lecturer (UK Assistant Professor) in the School of Engineering Mathematics and Technology at the University of Bristol. Prior to that, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Computational and Biological Learning Lab, mentored by Prof. José Miguel Hernández-Lobato at the University of Cambridge. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), advised by Prof. Irwin King (ACM/IEEE/AAAI Fellow). He also obtained his B.Eng. in Computer Science from Southeast University in China.

His research centers on data-centric graph machine learning and its applications in AI4Science, spanning data-efficient learning, trustworthy machine learning, deep generative models for graphs, and the integration of graphs with LLMs and agentic AI. He is interested in applying these methods to scientific discovery, with a current focus on drug design.

He currently serves as Vice Chair of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) Task Force on Data-efficient Agentic Learning. He was also honored to receive several awards, including the AAAI 2026 New Faculty Highlight, the 2025 Junior Research Fellowship at Wolfson College Cambridge, and the INNS 2024 Doctoral Dissertation Award.
